The Case for Returning Tech

Every time I walk in to my local Best-buy store, I can only imagine what the employees must think of my habit of returning tech. I mean, it’s not an exaggeration when I say that I must return MOST of the things that I buy and try. Perhaps in some way I might be overdoing it, but until someone actually tells me to stop, I will continue to exercise my right to take it back if I’m not 100% happy!

Okay, I have to admit that even the smallest, tiniest unexpected disappointment, can have me repackaging something and sifting through receipts. So many promises are made by the pushy sales people, and most of that can be taken with a grain of salt. How much do they really know about what they’re selling? Really? In my experience Very little. I rely mostly on Youtube reviews, and tech blogs to try and figure out what I can before sliding my card earned money away. Unfortunately you don’t always find all of the answers to questions, so getting said tech home is the only way to know for sure.

With all of the different tech eco systems out there, it can be confusing as to what products will perform best with others. Sometimes, the corporate competition will go out of their way to block compatibility. Will this smart speaker work with my current set up? Will that accessory work with my laptop? Sometimes, things are so new it could take months for people to figure out all of the bugs, and post a blog about it. I take my chances quite a lot, and even though it can be super frustrating to go back and forth to whatever store I purchased from, I find that in the end I get what I want.

So many things have to come together in order for that rare ‘going to keep it’ moment actually occurs. Was the price right? Does it work with all of my current gadgets? Does it do EVERYTHING it promises to do? If not, back in the bloody box it goes! I have tried out some super awesome products ranging from smart speakers, to computer monitors only having to haul them back down 3 flights of stairs and up the road. I find that the magic number is always the 3rd try! On the 3rd attempt I get what I want, and all is right in the world!!!!

Anyways, I just felt like expressing this briefly. Maybe more people than I know do the same thing as often as I do. If not, the poor people at BB are, at this very moment, waiting for me to bring something else back.
